Psychology Of Intrusive Thoughts

What are intrusive thoughts?

We know from psychological research findings that we all men and women at some time or other have intrusive and disturbing thoughts. They are associated with anxiety and anxiety disorders but more of that later. Clients often ask me are these normal as they are disturbing? Am I going insane or mad? At the outset, they seem pathological wacky but nevertheless worrying. Physical anxiety symptoms like these drive people to seek help from psychologists and psychiatrists because of the potential frightening nature of the thoughts. Some of my GP referrals, young women tell me about intrusive thoughts of being harmed by their boyfriend, or being in a car crash, or drowning on holiday in the Caribbean or wherever.

Are they triggered off by anything? It is the intrusive thoughts of anxiety that act as a trigger for an anxiety disorder if they are debilitating and frequent. Each disorder has its own type of intrusive thoughts and they can, in fact, destroy your emotional stability and emotional intelligence. Intrusive thoughts consistently enter your mind against your will. You did not consciously invite them but they come virtually automatically and can be real memories of very real past events that were traumatic for you. They are called intrusive because you feel that you can not erase them from your daily mental functioning. They can pop in when you are with friends enjoying a nice meal in a restaurant, or whilst in the leisure center working out. The underlying factor is they cause you psychological distress that is uncontrollable.

Optimists tend to have that emotional resilience so can weather the storm of intrusive thoughts. She explained it to me as a virtual rape followed by acts of aggression by her boyfriend, She was in a love-hate relationship, but the intrusive thought was linked to a previous real event. In some women and also men, I find the intrusive thoughts were scary to the extreme but not associated with previous real-time events.

There is a fine line between having an overactive imagination and intrusive thoughts. Men and women with specific personality types may have a tendency towards overactive imagination which we know is socially learned from parents or grandparents but they are not usually associated with historical or real traumatic events. Intrusive events fall into several categories. There are the unwanted memories though not considered intrusive thoughts in a medical or clinical sense. I see many people who have had PTSD associated with perhaps a sporting event such as a horse-riding accident, or a young female soldier traumatized from serving in Afghanistan, or a young high achieving woman who has just lost her career and so on. Other types of intrusive thoughts are of violent thoughts. Thoughts of violence and aggression may also be seen as common in those with anxiety especially Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. These clients of mine often have some sort of daily rituals which influence their lives negatively such as an OCD with buying shoes, or expensive lingerie, or very expensive winter coats on the credit card.

Some GP referrals I see have intrusive thoughts associated with exposure to social media especially meeting males online and on cyber-dating sites which have led to aggressive or violent experiences. These become extremely intrusive and can affect the woman’s self-esteem self-confidence and future relationships. The other category is sexual thoughts and like violent thoughts, unwanted sexual thoughts are associated with profound acts of aggression or scenarios where the woman might feel guilty as having been the trigger for the sexual encounter and its horrific consequences. Those men and women with phobias may randomly experience a flash of the object that is upsetting such as spider phobia when you just arrive at your luxury apartment in Greece. Enough to cause low mood or anxiety for all of your holidays.

Those with panic attacks have very different types of intrusive thinking patterns. Their thoughts are usually about the panic attack or their health, such as overworking at the gym or being terrified by what seems like bullying from my male boss. Some constantly think about their panic attacks so are in a constant state of hyper-vigilance which reinforces the anxiety and produces a series of intrusive thoughts of fainting or dying.

Those with intrusive thoughts can overcome them with professional help from Clinical Psychologists, Health Psychologists or CBT Cognitive Behaviour Therapists. Ensure that they are Chartered which gives you the public a cast iron guarantee that you are seen and treated by an appropriately qualified health professional. CBT helps you to challenge your negative thinking patterns and break the cycle of negative automatic thoughts and find relief for the long-term. A trendy intervention currently is Mindfulness. This innovative approach helps you to come off your daily thought rituals which include intrusive thoughts, and focus on self-awareness. It’s pretty effective for those who can sustain the weekly exercise and associated reading. CBT will help you to control your intrusive thoughts and improve your tenacity to build up emotional resilience and increase your ability to remain calm enjoying peace and happiness.

What You Need To Know Regarding Air Duct Cleaning

Duct Cleaning

Knowledge about air duct cleaning is in its early stages, so a blanket recommendation cannot be offered as to whether you should have your air ducts in your home cleaned. This information provides important information on the subject.

Duct cleaning has never been shown to actually prevent health problems. Neither do studies conclusively demonstrate that particle (e.g., dust) levels in homes increase because of dirty air ducts. This is because much of the dirt in air ducts adheres to duct surfaces and does not necessarily enter the living space. It is important to keep in mind that dirty air ducts are only one of many possible sources of particles that are present in homes. Pollutants that enter the home both from outdoors and indoor activities like cooking, cleaning, smoking, or just moving around can cause more significant exposure to contaminants than dirty air ducts. Moreover, there is no evidence that a light amount of household dust or other particulate matter in air ducts poses any risk to your health.

You should consider having the air ducts in your home cleaned up if:

1.) There is tangible visible mold growth inside hard surface (e.g., sheet metal) ducts or on other components of your heating and cooling system. There are a number of important points to understand concerning mold detection in heating and cooling units:

Many sections of your heating and cooling system may not be convenient for a visible inspection, so ask the service provider to show you any mold they say exists.

You should be aware that although a substance may appear to be mold, a positive determination of whether it is mold or not can be made only by an expert and may require laboratory analysis for final confirmation. For about $50, some microbiology research laboratories can tell you whether a sample sent to them on a clear strip of sticky household tape is mold or just a substance that looks like it.

If you have insulated air ducts and the insulation gets moldy or wet it cannot be effectively cleaned and should be removed and replaced.

Mold growth will recur if the conditions causing the mold growth in the first place are not corrected.

2.) Ducts are plagued with vermin, e.g. (rodents or insects).

3.) Ducts are clogged with excessive amounts of dust and debris and/or particles are actually released into the home from your supply.

It usually suggests some underlying causes if any of the conditions identified above exists. Prior to any cleaning, retrofitting, or replacing of your ducts, the cause or causes must be addressed or else the problem will likely recur.

Some research suggests that cleaning heating and cooling system components (e.g., cooling coils, fans, and heat exchangers) may improve the efficiency of your system, resulting in a longer operating life, as well as some energy and maintenance cost savings. However, little evidence exists that cleaning only the ducts will improve the efficiency of the system.

You may consider having your air ducts cleaned simply because it seems logical that air ducts will get dirty over time and should be occasionally cleaned. EPA does not recommend that the air ducts be cleaned routinely, but only as needed.

Take the same consumer precautions you generally would in assessing the service provider’s experience and credibility if you do decide to have your air ducts cleaned.

Air duct cleaning service providers may tell you that they need to apply chemical biocide to the inside of your ducts as a means to kill bacteria (germs) and fungi (mold) and prevent future biological growth. They may also propose the application of a “sealant” to prevent dust and dirt particles from being released into the air or to seal air leaks. You should fully appreciate the pros and cons of permitting application of chemical biocides or sealants. While the targeted use of chemical biocides and sealants may be appropriate under specific circumstances, research has not demonstrated their effectiveness in duct cleaning or their potential adverse health effects. No chemical biocides are currently registered by EPA for use in internally-insulated air duct systems.

Whether or not you choose to have the air ducts on your property cleaned, preventing water and dirt from getting into the system is the most effective way to prevent contamination.

People who live with pets or indoor air quality concerns should consider air duct cleaning every two years. Loose pet hair can build up in your system over time, as well as dust and dirt. Dust enters your home in a variety of ways including through open windows or doors, carpeted floors, paper towel use.

Central heating can be a great addition to your home, especially to warm up your entire house during the cool Melbourne winters. However, if you haven’t had your heating system cleaned, you may notice some excess dust every time you turn your heater on. Renogy Phoenix Solar Generator Review

Are you going out into the wilderness with a portable HiFi and your favourite sounds? With the Renogy Phoenix Solar Generator, you won’t have to compromise your power needs just to spend some time in the great outdoors! The Phoenix is an all-in-one portable solar power system specifically designed for mobile, off-grid applications and is ideal for emergencies. The Renogy Phoenix can be charged by solar, AC power, or car power.

The Renogy Phoenix is ideal for powering several on-the-go appliances during a weekend trip, or to keep for back-up power in case of an emergency. The Phoenix is an all-in-one portable solar power system specifically designed for mobile, off-grid applications, and is ideal for emergencies.

As we continue to carry more electronic devices with rechargeable batteries into the backcountry, the need to find efficient ways of keeping those gadgets powered on increases too. And now Renogy has thrown its hat into the ring with the Phoenix all-in-one solar kit, which makes a valiant attempt to put everything you need into one easy to carry package.

Renogy Phoenix Solar Generator

At first glance, the Renogy Phoenix looks a lot like a small, hard-shell briefcase that you might see someone carrying around town. It features a very durable build quality and comes equipped with a handle to make it easier to shuttle from one place to the next. It even extends the briefcase aesthetic further with a couple of security latches that hold its lid firmly in place.

Open those latches up, and you won’t find an interior built for carrying files, a laptop, and office supplies. Instead you’ll discover a pair of 10-watt solar panels that can quickly and easily be deployed as needed, pretty much anytime or anywhere. Those panels are connected to a 16Ah lithium-ion battery pack, which can store power collected directly from the sun, or can be charged using a standard AC outlet at home or the DC port (AKA: cigarette lighter) in a car. This solar-panel/battery mash-up make the Renogy Phoenix a portable generator that in theory can provide nearly unlimited power for use on the go.

Renogy’s all-in-one power solution is also equipped with an array of different outlets to keep our devices charged. Those devices will even replenish their power supply at about the same rate as they would if they were plugged into a wall outlet at home.

In putting the Renogy Phoenix to the test in the field, we’ve found it to be a reliable option for those who need power at a remote base camp. It’s large onboard battery does indeed provide plenty of juice, and it can recharge anything you plug into it very rapidly. And since it does have so many charging ports built right in, it is easy to keep a wide variety of electronic gear up and functioning.

When plugged into an AC or DC outlet, recharging the Renogy Phoenix at home or in the car is a breeze and it powers up relatively quickly. As with most products that use solar panels to charge, the performance in the field will vary greatly depending on conditions. Using the built-in dual 10w panels alone, it took hours to get much juice back into the battery pack, even on a clear day. That isn’t unusual however, as we’ve seen similar performance from the competition too. The Phoenix’s solar panels do work, but a bit of patience is required. If their requirements demand it, thankfully Renogy has given users the option to plug in more and larger solar panels.

Goal Zero’s Nomad 20 solar panel also puts out 20 watts of power, and when paired with the Sherpa 100 power pack, you get a full-featured charging solution that clocks in at about a third of the weight, while also being much more packable and less expensive too. On the other hand, the Phoenix offers a lot more power than GZ’s solution and it comes equipped with more outlets.

renogy phoenix review

Over all, the Renogy Phoenix solar generator is a good option for those who need a portable power solution. It is incredibly rugged, offers the ability to keep just about any gadget functioning while living off the grid, and its solar panels are on par with most others that we’ve used in the past. I appreciated Renogy’s take on offering an all-in-one solar generator that can simply be carried with you anywhere and deployed in a matter of seconds. I also love that I can keep a laptop, smartphone, and tablet charged where ever I go with very few worries that I might run out of juice. Sure, it is a bit heavier and more ponderous to carry around than some other options on the market, but it delivers in terms of performance for those who need more than those other solutions can offer.

Priced at $699.99 (currently on sale for $575), this is an expensive investment for sure. For anyone who needs power in remote places, it is an overall good choice in terms of reliability, versatility, and durability.

The Phoenix is an all-in-one portable solar power system specifically designed for mobile, off-grid applications and is ideal for emergencies. The Renogy Phoenix Solar Generator is quite versatile as it can be charged by solar power, AC power, or car power.

TMZ reports that Bennington killed himself, his body was found in a Los Angeles Area residence just months after his good friend Chris Cornell killed himself.

One of the band’s most iconic songs was “Numb”, released in 2003. The song managed to reach number 14 in the UK, becoming a huge hit among fans.

After being remixed with Jay Z’s “Encore”, the song reached new heights of fame, earning the Grammy Award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration.

Bennington wrote an emotional letter to his friend and Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell after he died in May. In it, he touches on his grief, how he inspired him, and how he felt Cornell was “saying goodbye in your own way”.

I dreamt about the Beatles last night. I woke up with Rocky Raccoon playing in my head and a concerned look my wife’s face. She told me my friend had just passed away. Thoughts of you flooded my mind and I wept. I’m still weeping, with sadness, as well as gratitude for having shared some very special moments with you and your beautiful family. You have inspired me in many ways you could never have known. Your talent was pure and unrivalled. Your voice was joy and pain, anger and forgiveness, love and heartache all wrapped up into one. I suppose that’s what we all are. You helped me understand that. I just watched a video of you singing “A Day In The Life” by the Beatles and thought of my dream. I’d like to think you were saying goodbye in your own way. I can’t imagine a world without you in it. I pray you find peace in the next life. I send my love to your wife and children, friends and family.

Thank you for allowing me to be part of your life.

With all my love.

Tesla to build world’s biggest lithium ion battery in South Australia

Elon Musk’s company Tesla will partner with French utility Neoen to deliver the lithium ion battery designed to improve the security of electricity network

Elon Musk, the billionaire founder of Tesla, will build the world’s largest lithium ion battery to store renewable energy in South Australia in partnership with French energy utility Neoen.

The 129MWh battery, which is paired with a wind farm, is designed to improve the security of electricity supplies across South Australia.

On Friday the state’s premier, Jay Weatherill, confirmed the deal, which forms a key part of the government’s $550m energy plan.

The state government said Musk had confirmed his pledge made on Twitter in March that he could deliver the battery within 100 days of signing the contract or it would be delivered free.

Romain Desrousseaux, the deputy chief executive of Neoen, said that at 129MWh the South Australian lithium ion battery would become the largest in the world. The battery will be built near Jamestown, in the state’s mid-north, and will be paired with Neoen’s Hornsdale windfarm to provide stability for renewable power being fed into the grid.

Musk told reporters in Adelaide on Friday the project was not without technical challenges, given it would be the largest battery installation in the world “by a significant margin”.

“When you make something three times as big, does it still work as well? We think it will, but there is some risk in that,” he said. “We’re confident in our techniques and the design of the system.”

He anticipated it would help stabilise the grid and help bring down prices for consumers.

“You can essentially charge up the battery packs when you have excess power when the cost of production is very low … and then discharge it when the cost of power production is high, and this effectively lowers the average cost to the end customer,” Musk said. “It’s a fundamental efficiency improvement for the grid.”

Musk said a failure to deliver the project on time would cost his group about $50m, though the details of the contract have not been revealed.

The battery forms a key part of the state government’s $550m energy plan drawn up after last year’s statewide blackout. Weatherill said: “I’m thrilled with the selection of Neoen and Tesla, whose experience and world leadership in energy security and renewables will help South Australia take charge of its energy future.”

“Battery storage is the future of our national energy market and the eyes of the world will be following our leadership in this space.

“This historic agreement does more than bring a sustainable energy giant in Tesla to South Australia, it will also have some significant economic spin-offs.”

Repeated blackouts in SA since September have sparked a political brawl over energy policy, with the federal government blaming the failures on the use of renewable technologies. After the most recent blackout in early February the Australian Energy Market Operator said there were many factors behind it, including higher demand than anticipated.

Grid-scale battery storage could help to even out price spikes, prevent blackouts and improve reliability across the network.

Tesla recently completed an installation of an 80MWh grid-scale battery farm in southern California within just 90 days, which is estimated to have cost US$100m.

The Climate Council’s Tim Flannery said South Australia was leading the charge on Australia’s transition to renewable energy and storage technology.

“South Australia is tackling climate change head-on and should be congratulated for its innovation and leadership as it transforms our energy system into one that’s clean, affordable, efficient and secure,” Flannery said.

“South Australians are witnessing first hand how swiftly this technology can be built and used, with the battery expected to be up and running this summer.

“South Australia joins the likes of California as a world leader in demonstrating how renewable energy and storage technologies can power our economy cheaply and cleanly.”

Flannery said the federal government should be encouraging further investment in energy storage to assist in building the renewable energy sector.

“Renewables like wind and solar are now the cheapest power source available. We need to roll out this technology swiftly in a bid to tackle climate change.”

Kelly put Pugh on public blast after finding out about her involvement with her father, spreading the woman’s contact information to her millions of followers as a go-to resource for “cheap chunky LOW-lights and a blow out,” in addition to other services. She even suggested the relationship was “elder abuse” since her father was rumored to be financially supporting the woman.

Sharon seemed delighted by the rage-filled reaction, saying, “What can you do but laugh … she’s just so funny.” Kelly’s tweet, she added, came from a place of love and made her mum “proud.” Perhaps the reason she was so tickled by Kelly’s behavior is that they were partners in crimes of passion. They’re said to have frequently dialed the Beverly Hills salon where Pugh had been employed in an effort to speak with her, costing her the job as a result of all the attention.

Sharon has ridden the crazy train

The Osbournes’ history of alcoholism and addiction is more than well documented, but what people might not know is that in the middle of one bad binge long ago, Sharon slit her wrists to prove her undying love for Ozzy. As she explained in 2014, she’d never before revealed the story of how her bloody show of devotion once landed her in the hospital because “of embarrassment of how stupid [she] was at the time.” Back then, she’d told Ozzy she’d “do anything” for him, and he asked her to prove it. That’s when took a steak knife to her wrists and immediately realized the gravity of her mistake, the scars of which she still carries. (She was transported by ambulance and put on lockdown in the hospital’s psychiatric ward after the incident.)

She also once made up a surgery for no reason

Fame can make a person say and do some very strange things, but this has gotta take some kind of tasty British lemon cake. In 2013, Sharon admitted to having lied about undergoing “excruciating” tightening surgery on her lady bits just for the heck of it. She admitted it was a “flippant, stupid thing to be silly.” After having beaten colon cancer and undergoing a double mastectomy to prevent the likely genetic onset of breast cancer, she said, “how could I do that after I’ve had so much ill health? Now, I’m going to start putting scaffolding up in my vagina?”

Jay Leno hooked up with Sharon years ago

Before she and Ozzy were officially together, Sharon enjoyed some mattress time with comedian Jay Leno, who was still decades shy of earning his late-night legacy. As she explained in 2013, she was 25 years old when she first moved to the U.S., and while she knew Ozzy at that time, they weren’t yet a romantic item. “We were just friends. I didn’t have a boyfriend. I never did date a lot at that time anyway because I was not very dateable.” She saw Leno perform a set at a club and expressed an interest in him to her friend, which resulted in her prank calling him and, ultimately, inviting him to come over and have “a little fling” together. It wouldn’t last, of course, and he would even later introduce her to his eventual wife Mavis Leno and remain friends with he’d moved onto the woman Sharon described as “the real love of his life.”

Aimee still separates herself from her family

When the Osbournes first decided to let show cameras film their every move (and, more importantly, Ozzy’s every unintelligible grumbling), their oldest daughter Aimee wanted absolutely nothing to do with it. In fact, the now-32-year-old musician immediately packed her things and moved out of the family home and onto a separate building of the property and demanded that her visits to the main home not be filmed. Sharon would later admit that her sole regret about doing the show was “that it meant I spent less time with her while we were filming it,” and while she and her parents still remain close, the same cannot be said for Aimee and her younger siblings.

Those many months spent apart during filming for the show’s four seasons, Aimee told The Independent, opened a divide between herself and the other two that has yet to be fully bridged. “I wouldn’t say there is an ease between us,” she said of her strained relationship with Kelly, 31, and Jack, 30. “But there is an acceptance. Do we socialize? No.”

Sharon and Ozzy don’t get along with her family

They say family and business shouldn’t mix, and the tumultuous relationship between the Osbournes and Sharon’s side is definitive proof. Her father, the late Don Arden, was an early manager for Ozzy’s Black Sabbath. But the self-proclaimed “Godfather of rock” was persona non grata for the Osbourne fam for years thanks to his nefarious business dealings and violent behaviors. When she married Ozzy, he gave her the Black Sabbath contract, and she took it to an American label instead and was sued by her father for $1 million in damages. They wouldn’t reconcile for 15 years, by which time he was already succumbing to Alzheimer’s disease.

Meanwhile, her brother David Levy has also been the source of some major familial friction, especially after he openly criticized Sharon’s choice to have cosmetic surgeries. Ozzy penned a scathing open letter to his “brother-in-law in name only” and told him to butt out of his business, and Sharon followed that up with her own promise to cut (financial) ties with him for good. “We call him Fredo after the weak son in The Godfather who sold the family out … all he wants is our money. I want absolutely nothing to do with him,” she said.

Osbournes split might be a mere stunt

Ozzy and Sharon reunited to support his Black Sabbath tour in May and fueled speculation that their split is a media play to drum up attention for the tour. Sharon’s comments to the Los Angeles Times that she hopes for a reconciliation between them certainly support that theory. She said, “Ideally, I would love for my husband to deal with his issues and work at the problems that he has now. And be honest and open … to be able to come back to us with honesty and respect for the family. That’s what I really wish.” The Osbournes have not filed for divorce as of this writing.
